The Oman Medical Specialty Board held the second Board of Trustees Meeting for 2020 in its Headquarter under the presidency of H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi, Minister of Health and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. The meeting was held on Thursday 7th of May and attended by H.E. Dr. Hilal Al Sabti, the Executive President of the OMSB, The Vice Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University and a number of members.

The meeting started by approving the minutes of the previous meeting and a follow up on the previous decisions and action plans, their progress and execution.

A visual presentation on the integrated framework of medical scholarships system between OMSB, The Higher National Committee for Advanced Medical Training and the OMSB-MOHE Joint Taskforce was presented to the members.

The Board approved the provisional   list of (83)   accepted candidates for scholarships abroad for the academic year 2021/22 in residency and OMSB fellowship programs in a number of countries such as Canada, USA, UK, Australia, France, among others.

Another presentation was obtainable on the analytical study conducted on the results of interviews, the modern methods used in admission and registration in the OMSB programs, and the recent interview system which is based on e-forms for assessment and appraisal. 

The board also approved a list of (198) doctor accepted   for the academic year 2020/21 in the OMSB  19 residency programs, in addition to  (3) doctors accepted for OMSB local fellowship  programs of Medical Genetics, Adult General Cardiology, and Otology.

The Board also discussed the recommendations of the Central Examination Committee regarding the OMSB Examinations and a number of issues related to the follow-up and implementation of OMSB plans and projects. 

The Executive Board has a number of responsibilities among which are setting the policies of medical training for Omani doctors, accrediting the medical training programs and their plans, approving the annual number of new candidates and acceptance criteria for each program, and accrediting the specialty  training certificates at the end of the training period in addition to forming  the educational and examination committees which monitor the training  programs.
