The programme involves five years of fulltime training with evaluation.
The board evaluation consists of three components:

  •   End of training year examination
  •   Primary specialty board examination (Part I OMSB) at the end of 3rd year
  •   Final specialty board examination (Part II OMSB) at the end of 5th year training period

END OF TRAINING YEAR EXAMINATION
End of R1:  Written examination only
MCQ's and short answer questions, focusing on general Pathology and clinical aspects (3 hours)

End of R2:  Written Examination– MCQ's and short answer questions (3 hours)
Practical Examination – 20 cases (10 short surgicals, 5 gynae, and 5 non‑gynae)

End of R4:  Written Examination

Oral

PRIMARY SPECIALTY BOARD EXAMINATION (PART I OMSB)-R3
Candidates are allowed a total of three attempts to pass the examination.
Examination consists of:
·  Written examination – MCQ's and short answer questions
·  Practical examination– Surgical pathology and cytology (to be held on 2 days)
·  Oral

FINAL SPECIALTY BOARD EXAMINATION (PART II OMSB) - R5
The examination is given to candidates after the successful completion of training as evidenced by acceptable final in-training evaluation.

Candidates are allowed a total of three attempts to pass the examination after completion of training.

Examination consists of:
·  Practical examination – 3 days
Day 1:
  Surgical Pathology H&E (20 slides in 3 hours)
Day 2:
  2 Sessions
o  Frozen sections (6 cases in 1 hour)
o  Long cases in H&E, IMF e.g. Renal cases, liver, etc. (for 2 hours)
Day 3:
  2 Sessions
o  Cytology Cases (12 cases in 2 hours)
o  Gross description (photographs, on gross table/pots) for 1-2 hours
·  Viva – 30 minutes

Qualification for Overseas Training:  
  •   OMSB Part 1 Equivalence: FRCPath Part I Exam.
  •   Passing the English proficiency exam (IELTS) with an overall score of 7.5 and a minimum of 7 in each of the competencies.
Exit Qualification:


COMPLETION OF TRAINING CERTIFICATE
  •   Successful Completion of 5 years of training (4 years general histopathology plus 1 year Advanced Training abroad – if OMSB resources permit)
  •   Passed all End-of-Year Examination
  •   Achieved Satisfactory evaluation
  •   Passed OMSB Part 1 Examination or equivalent (FRCPath)
  •   Completed Final In-Training Evaluation Report (FITER)
  •   Completed Successfully the Resident Development Program
  •   Provided Evidence of a Research Project during Residency

SPECIALTY CERTIFICATE
  •   Awarded OMSB Completion of Training Certificate
  •   Passed OMSB Part I and II or equivalent (Residents to apply to the Certification & Verification Committee in OMSB through Ministry of Health to received equivalences)
