Overall Program Objectives

The training program of the OMSB- ORL-HNS prepares the residents to become a general Otorhinolaryngologist - Head and Neck Surgeon. The resident should also have the basic knowledge and concepts related to communication disorders. Sub-specialization in different fields of the specialty is becoming more common and is necessary to deal with the more complex problems with a higher level of expertise. Although during the training program an initial training in one of the subspecialties may be included, the OMSB training scheme will be focused on the training of the general Otorhinolaryngologist - Head and Neck Surgeon.

At the completion of the training program, residents should be prepared to provide comprehensive evaluation and management of patients of all ages who have medical and surgical disorders of the upper respiratory and upper alimentary tracts and related structures of the Head and Neck. They should be able to carry out diagnostic evaluation as well as surgical and non-surgical management of otolaryngologic disorders including rehabilitation and, when appropriate, referral to the sub-specialist.
